May 12th, a major earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale hit Wenchuan County of southwest China's Sichuan Province all of a sudden. Mianyang, the city where Changhong NewEnergy is located in, is just 180km away from the epicentre of Wenchuan, and is strongly jolted by the quake as well: ground quaked, communication was interrupted, supply of power source, water and natural gas had to be cut off, buildings were damaged, etc.

Confronting the catastrophe that we’d never faced up with, we the people of Changhong NewEnergy were neither feared nor flinched from the difficulties, but contributed our share in the earthquake relief as we could. As soon as we knew that illuminating devices as flashlights were badly in need of in the earthquake-stricken areas, prompt response was made at once: LED flashlights and the U8 superpower alkaline batteries kept in stock were dispatched to the Command Centre for Emergency Response at the first time right in the intervals of the aftershocks.

Not only offering help to the common victims of the quake, Changhong also shows deep solicitude for its staff, and the ones who’re concerned about most are those have relatives living in the harder-hit areas of Beichuan, Qingchuan, and Pingwu.

Special vacation was approved for these staff at the first time for them to look for their relatives, and specially-assigned persons were sent to help getting in touch with their families as soon as the communication is recovered. Up to now, all the staff’s relatives are confirmed to be well except for one.

The Company’s concern about the dispatched salespersons’ families in the earthquake-stricken areas is also sincere. March 15th, Sales &. Marketing Director of Changhong NewEnergy and the Regional Manager of Mianyang drove to the countryside of Santai County, where the Lanzhou Region Manager’s Mother was living in, expressed the Company’s solicitude while providing certain helps.

Flats and houses of 108 employees of Changhong NewEnergy were damaged during the quake. To help settle them down, the leadership of the Company made every effort: borrowing unused garages and temporarily altered into living rooms for the staff, organizing curtains and necessities for them by all kinds of means.

Moreover, volunteers from Changhong NewEnergy are active in the salvation points of Jiuzhou Gymnasium, Nanhe Sports Centre, Changhong Hongyuan and Changhong Sports Centre, too. These young staff volunteered to come and help the victims from Beichuan and Pingwu recovering from the disaster. On the other hand, volunteers were also organized to go to harder-hit areas as Pingwu and Beichuan everyday from March 15th on, and done whatever they could to help at the front against the earthquake disaster.

Even in hard times like this, the great effort made by Changhong NewEnergy to help its staff, the unity of the staff when confront with disasters, as well as the spirit of mutual-help and self-help in the earthquake-stricken areas show the real warmth on earth, which encourages the people here greatly. We are confident in resuming production as soon as possible, and are determined to repay the help and concern from the Party, the Country, and the People with concrete actions.
